My Friend the Monkey is a 1939 Betty Boop cartoon featuring Pudgy.

Summary[]

A swingin' hurdy-gurdy man goes by Betty Boop's house; she wants to buy the monkey, which causes plenty of trouble for Pudgy the Pup.

Plot[]

An Italian-accented organ grinder and his monkey sing below Betty's window (the monkey does a cool scat-like number), and Betty sings back. While Betty goes down to bargain with the organ grinder, she lets the monkey in to play with her puppy, Pudgy. The monkey creates a lot of problems for poor Pudgy, and the two battle for control of the house. Finally, Pudgy chases the trouble-making simian out. Pudgy's joy is soon turned to gloom when he finds out that Betty has bought the monkey from the organ grinder, and that the monkey is her second house pet.

Trivia[]

  • The monkey's dance and song are reused from Swing School (1938).
